5 Ways to Grow Your Email List by 25% -  Fast
Justin Alei

Email marketing is one of the best ways to drive sales - it outperforms practically any other online channel. Did you know that 58% of adults check their email first thing in the morning and that email is almost 40 times better at acquiring new customers than Facebook and Twitter? It’s true. But the biggest challenge most businesses face with email marketing is that they don’t have an email list (or database) big enough to really see the awesome benefits of email.

Fortunately, there's quite a bit that you can do to get new email subscribers and start building that list quickly. Here are a few ideas:

1) Install SumoMe List Builder.

SumoMe has some of the best apps we have used for building an email list, and we’ve used them a lot. List Builder and Scrollbox typically get the best results.

The List Builder app is a popup that can be triggered when a user is about to leave the site, after a certain amount of time on the site, or after another predetermined action is taken on site. (SumoMe recommends that you test displaying the popup after a visitor has been on the site for at least 15 seconds).

Here’s an example of the List Builder app in action…

Depending on whether you are using the paid or free version of SumoMe, once the visitor gives you their information, their information is imported directly into your outside email provider list (and right into your automated series) or placed in a separate list on SumoMe that can be downloaded as an excel file later on.

2. Host a Webinar

No matter what your industry is, you can use webinars to your advantage to reach people in your target market and get new subscribers to your email list. Just host a simple webinar and ask for people’s email addresses when they register. If you’re providing really valuable content and can bring in hundreds of registrants, then you’re also getting hundreds of new emails! Rinse & repeat.

3. Advertise a lead magnet.

A lead magnet is “an irresistible bribe offering a specific chunk of value to a prospect in exchange for their contact information.” The goal of the Lead Magnet is to maximize the number of targeted leads you are getting for an offer. Some examples are: free e-books, a free consultation, a checklist, an infographic, a study guide, etc. Promote your lead magnet with paid ads on Facebook, Bing ads, and Google Adwords to get your target audience seeing your magnet. Bonus: Create an entire resources page on your website - like an academy - and offer your lead magnets as purchasable items (still require an email to purchase).

4.  Create an Email Course

In addition to hosting a time-sensitive webinar that's sure to be missed by people with other  priorities, why not offer your expertise via an email course? This way, they are able to access your irresistibly valuable content whenever they have the time. Obviously, anybody who wants to be a part of the email course will need to provide an email address, adding to your subscribers.

5. Launch a giveaway or viral competition

A giveaway is simple, and similar to a lead magnet - but this offer is something even bigger, with better value. Like a sweepstakes. Do you run an amazing live retreat or workshop each year? Give away one free spot. Give away something so irresistible that no one would hesitate to enter their email address (but be sure you are advertising it where your target audience actually hangs out, and are offering something relevant to your audience). Alternatively, a viral competition is a competition where you enter with an email address, and then get extra entries for every person who signs up from your referral. This encourages people to share your offer, making it go “viral.”

Conclusion

If you’re struggling to build your email list, even implementing just one or two of these tactics will give you some results. But of course, for maximum success you should try and implement as many of these as possible.
